EDIBLES 101
Remember, you can always consume more, but you can’t consume less!
Start Small
How small? Everyone’s tolerance is different. Below are general guidelines:
New Consumer 1 – 5mg THC
Occasional Consumer5 – 10mg THC
Frequent Consumer 10 – 15mg THC
Go Slow
How slow? Depending on the type of cannabis you are consuming, it can take up to two hours to feel the full effects. Below are general guidelines:
Edible: 1 – 2 hours to feel the full effects
When you ingest cannabis in the form of a chocolate bar, brownie, or beverage it is absorbed through the digestive system and processed by the liver. Edibles take longer to take effect, last longer and are typically more intense than sublinguals or vapeable
Sublingual: 15 minutes – 1 hour to feel the full effects
Sublingual means “under-the-tongue.” Sublinguals include tinctures and lozenges that are placed under the tongue and dissolved rather than swallowed. This allows the cannabinoids to be absorbed through the mucosal lining of the mouth directly into the bloodstream (bypassing the digestive system and liver). This delivery system is often referred to as “oral-mucosal.”
Vapeable: 5 – 10 minutes to feel the full effects.
When inhaled as smoke or vapor, cannabinoids are absorbed directly into the bloodstream through the lungs. Effects are felt relatively quickly and don’t last as long as edibles or sublinguals.
